ADOPT A SMILE takes oral health education to thousands of school-going children in underserved communities in Kenya to prevent early childhood caries
At ADOPT A SMILE we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with a healthy smile.
Through our school outreach programs, ADOPT A SMILE takes oral health/hygiene education beyond the toothbrush, reaching thousands of vulnerable school-going children in underserved communities across Kenya. Our programmers focus on preventing early childhood caries by equipping children with knowledge, lifelong practical skills, and the basic tools they need to care for their teeth.
During our outreach sessions, we skillfully combine interactive oral health education, demonstrations on proper brushing techniques, and distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste to children who may otherwise have limited access to these essential oral hygiene resources.
But our work is more than just distributing toothbrushes!
It is about helping young school-going children to understand that a healthy smile is part of a healthy childhood/wellbeing. It is about empowering families, caregivers and teachers to continuously support good oral hygiene practices and create healthier communities.
For ADOPT A SMILE, every school visit is an opportunity to plant a seed of knowledge that can last for a lifetime.
We are at a tipping point. In 2017, nearly one million people died from AIDS-related causes globally and another 1.8 million contracted HIV. After 10 years of steady decline, malaria is back on the rise, especially among children under 5 years old, who account for two-thirds of all malaria deaths. Though more than 10 million people contract TB every year, nearly 40% of those are “missed” – that is almost 4 million people left undiagnosed, untreated, and therefore, contagious.
