Access to oral care remains critically limited with Kenya having a dentist to population ratio of about 1:42,000, far below the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation ratio of 1:7000. (PMC) This shortage is more severe in underserved communities where children rarely receive preventive or early treatment services. These findings align with national public health.
The statistics highlight a critical gap in preventive oral healthcare and education especially among vulnerable school-going children. Despite this high burden, oral health education and preventive services are not adequately integrated into school health programs leaving a significant gap in early intervention.
This situation underscores the urgent need for school-based oral health interventions that focus on prevention, early detection and behavior change.
By targeting children within the school environment, our programs provide a practical scalable and cost effective solution to improving oral health outcomes among underserved vulnerable populations in Kenya.
Investing in preventive oral health for children is not only a health priority but also a strategic investment in education, equity and long-term community well-being.
This is why we launched the Adopt A Smile Campaign, a program that provides opportunity for individuals, corporates and businesses to directly support the program and drive transformation by creating long-lasting smiles to the vulnerable school-going children in underserved communities in Kenya. For instance, a gift a month would furnish a needy child with a toothbrush and toothpaste all through the year.
Adopt a Smile allows a customized monthly bank account deductions, one time donations, yearly donations or any other form of support that may be possible.
Through this campaign, we invite individuals, families, organizations, companies and friends of ADOPT A SMILE to adopt a child’s smile by making a donation either in cash or in kind.
